The Measure Of A Man...

The Day of the procedure:
This is an online daily prayer that I recieve and after my grandpa died, I looked back to see what prayer I had gotten on my e-mail  the day the procedure was done.  "When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him".  What does it mean to please the Lord?  In the book of Hebrews, it says that faith pleases God. Faith is simply believing that God is who he says he is, and that he rewards those who seek after him.  The bible also tells us that faith without words is dead.  In other words, we know that we can have faith in our hearts because it impacts our actions.  For example, when you go sit down in your favorite chair, you probably don't stop and study it wondering if it's going to hold you up.  No, you have faith in that chair because you've probably sat in it hundreds of times.  If you didn't have faith that the chair would hold you, you wouldn't sit down.  Your actions are affected by your faith.  In the same way, when we have faith in God, we follow his commands knowing He will fulfill his promises.  Every believer has been given a measure of faith.  Faith comes by hearing the word of God.  The more we act on that faith the more we will see his faithfulness and the more confidence we will have in him.

My grandpa started hurting a couple of hours after the surgery and begged for more pain medication.  The nurse had to have a doctor's order and had to wait on him to call her and tell her what to give.  During the twenty minutes it took to get the order and the medication, my grandpa began to pray from his bed.  His arm extended into the air in prayer praising the Lord for his healing, praising him for his mercy, speaking his blessings and favor over his life.  After a few minutes of his praying, he got still and relaxed back onto his bed and drifted off into a peaceful sleep supplied only by God.  My grandpa didn't know what the outcome would be, but he had faith that the Lord would give him ease, and he did.

This was the online scripture I recieved in my e-mail on the day my grandpa died.

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you…” (Isaiah 66:13 NIV). Right here is where I feel like God took him into his arms as I sat in my chair in the conference room we were in after they had told us that his heart stopped beating and to pray.  I just asked the Lord to accept him in to heaven and to take care of him as I jumped up from my chair to run to see him and put my arms around him.

Oftentimes, when people face challenges, they seek comfort in things that are familiar. It may be work, or an activity, or relationships; and of course, we all know about “comfort food.” But those things only bring temporary comfort. True comfort is found in a personal relationship with God in heaven through His Son, Jesus.

According to Webster’s dictionary, comfort means: to give strength and hope; to ease grief or trouble. No matter what difficulty you may be facing today, God wants to bring you comfort. Like a mother cares for her child, He longs to give you strength, hope, and confidence. Make the decision to put Him first in every area of your life.

Let go of those things you know are holding you back. Let Him be Lord over all! As you surrender to His grace, you will be filled with His peace and joy. You’ll be empowered to overcome every obstacle, and you will live in victory all the days of your life.

My grandpa was loved by so many people in so many different ways.  This is what someone in our extended family wrote about him:

What makes a great man? Some say its strength. Some say itʼs a hero. But to me a great man is one who is always there for you to help you when you need help. He will work beside you and heʼll cry beside you when your down.
When you were younger he was always there and had loving nick names for everyone. He called one wife, some he called daughters, one he called sis, and me he called the country gentleman. This great man I am writing about was not my grandfather but I wish he would have been.
I have worked beside him all day and then after a hard days work would eat with him. So you see to me a great man may not be the strongest or a hero but a kind and loving man.
Pa, we love you and will always miss you

A month had gone by since my grandpa's death and some wonderful friends in the community sent my grandma a card saying that they had made a donation to the Gideon's Bible organization in my grandpa's name and they will be handing out bibles in honor of my grandpa. His life was an inspiration to everyone while he was here on earth and it will still be an inspiration to others after he is gone.  He would loved to have shared his love of God with anyone who asked.

The last passage on this page is one that you have seen at the bottom of all of the pages. "LIfe is but a vapor"...  It was one that I heard my grandpa say many times throughout my life.  I always hated to hear him say it, but it is the truth.  Even though my grandpa was 79 years old, it seemed like it went by so fast and all you want is more time. If you could only have one more year, one more day, even one more hour, and still it wouldn't be enough. Even though you try to prepare yourself for the day that death comes you will never know how hard it will be until it happens, and buddy, it's coming...to all of us. Don't waste one minute of the precious time you have to be with anyone you love. Don't take anything for granted, not even the simple things because before you know it, it will be gone.
